Cardinals are one of the most desired birds in North America because of their large range, bright red color, and year round presence. Often they will be the first bird you see in the morning at your feeder, and the last visitors you see at night. One of the biggest ways of attracting cardinals is having the right type of seed. The large bills of cardinals allow them to easily crack open safflower and sunflower seeds. Ground feeders or low platform feeders are the best way to present your seed, as the large size of cardinals often deters them from feeding from tube and smaller hopper feeders. Like many other birds, slow moving water is another great way to get the attention of your neighborhood cardinals. Try a few of these simple solutions, and soon these bright and cheery birds will be twittering about in your backyard.
